On 14 September, 23 first-year students began their studies at the International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies. This year, 32 applicants took part in the admission interviews.

The first class for the new students was Hebrew, taught by Yuliia Ponomarenko. During the first trimester, students will also study Introduction to Jewish traditional culture (Alexandra Fishel), Introduction to Jewish сlassical texts (Dr Arye Olman), and History of the Jews of Eastern Europe (Artem Fedorchuk).

Starting on 1 October, Professor Anna Shternshis, Chair of the J. Richard and Dorothy Shiff Chair in Jewish Studies and Director of the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto, will teach a 10-lecture course, “The Short 20th Century: Jewish Life in Ukraine, 1917-1991,” open to Program students and all participants of the Program’s open courses.
