International Academic Conference “Jewish Communities of Ukraine in the Late Medieval and Early Modern Period”

Applications are invited for participation in the International Academic Conference “Jewish Communities of Ukraine in the Late Medieval and Early Modern Period,” which will take place on August 26–27, 2026, in Medzhybizh, Khmelnytskyi region, Ukraine.

Conference topics:

  • The shtetl as a socio-cultural phenomenon: formation and development.
  • Intellectual history and religious movements.
  • Material heritage of Jewish communities: architecture, cemeteries, archival studies, book printing, fine and applied arts.
  • Authorities and Jewish communities: mechanisms of coexistence, legal frameworks, and administrative structures.
  • Jewish life during the Cossack uprisings and the 17th-century revolution.

Chronologically, the conference covers the period from the 14th to the early 19th century.

Participation guidelines:

Participants are required to submit abstracts to conferencejudaica@gmail.com by June 30, 2026 (inclusive).

Proposals on related topics that correspond to the conference theme are also welcome.

Participation is possible both online and offline. Remote participation without a presentation is not предусмотрена (not allowed).

Conference languages: Ukrainian and English.

For in-person participants, the organizers provide accommodation (1 night), two meals per day, two coffee breaks, an экскурсионная программа (guided tour), and transportation. The number of in-person participants is limited.

The organizers will provide live streaming and recording of the presentations.
