“Ascending the Stairs that Lead Down_ Aliyah to the Land of Israel in Historical Context”

For the fourth consecutive year, the International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies has the honor of participating in and organizing a section and a roundtable within the framework of the “A. Krymskyi Oriental Readings,” which have been held for many years by the A. Yu. Krymskyi Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

With the participation of the International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies, this year a roundtable entitled “Ascending the Stairs that Lead Down: Aliyah to the Land of Israel in Historical Context” will also be organized. It will begin on June 26 at 11:00.

The roundtable is dedicated to the historical circumstances and interpretations of Jewish migration from Eastern Europe to Palestine up to 1947, the development of new Jewish settlements, interactions between these settlements and Eastern European Jewish communities, as well as the concepts of the “Land of Israel” and the “Land of Exile” (including Poland, Ukraine, etc.) in Jewish religious and political thought.
Timeframe: 1700–1947.

In addition, with the participation of the International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies, a section titled “Oriental Aspects of Jewish Studies” will be organized within the framework of the “A. Krymskyi Oriental Readings.” More information is available via the link.

Working languages of the conference: Ukrainian, English.

Presentation length: 15 minutes.

The conference will be held in an online format.
